Getting Pro

How do I unlock Pro after buying?

Open PlaySubtitle and press Unlock PRO, then Sign in to activate this computer. Your browser opens your account page. If you are not signed in, sign in with the e-mail you bought with and the 8-digit code we send you. Check that the computer code matches the one in PlaySubtitle, then press Activate this computer. PlaySubtitle finishes by itself. There is nothing to copy from your receipt.

The code e-mail did not arrive

Wait a minute and check your spam or junk folder. Make sure you typed the same e-mail you bought with. If you ask for a new code, only the newest one works, and each code works for 10 minutes. Still nothing? Write to support@playsubtitle.com from that address.

I signed in, but PlaySubtitle still shows Free

Check that you signed in with the e-mail you bought with: a different address has no plan. If PlaySubtitle says it is downloading Pro components, keep it open and online. It retries by itself, or press Check again. If the computer code expired (after 10 minutes), press Sign in to activate this computer again for a new one.

Windows blocks the installer

If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. If it says an Application Control policy blocked the file, Smart App Control is on. The Download page explains what to do.

How do I move Pro to another computer?

On your account page, deactivate the old computer. Then, on the new computer, press Unlock PRO and Sign in to activate this computer. You can move it 3 times a year. After the third move, the next one becomes available 12 months after the first; to use Pro on another computer sooner, add another licence on your account page.

Can I buy first and install later?

Yes. Your plan is linked to your account (the e-mail you bought with), not to a computer. Your account page has the Download button and your licences. Install PlaySubtitle whenever you are ready, then press Unlock PRO and Sign in to activate this computer.

The basics

What is PlaySubtitle?

PlaySubtitle is a Windows app that creates translated subtitles for video and audio while you play it. It recognises the speech, translates it, and shows the result as subtitles. It works with files on your PC and with video on websites.

Which languages does it support?

PlaySubtitle translates into more than 30 languages, including Thai, English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Vietnamese and Indonesian. It can also recognise speech in further languages and show it as original-language subtitles. The full list is shown in the app.

Is the app itself available in Thai?

The app's menus and settings are currently in English. Subtitles can be shown in Thai or any other supported language.

Does it work on Mac or other devices?

Not yet. PlaySubtitle is built for Windows 10 and 11. Support for Mac and other devices is planned for the near future.

Translation

How good is the translation?

It is machine translation that uses the surrounding conversation to choose its words. It handles everyday dialogue well. It can still make mistakes with names, slang, songs, and several people talking at once.

What is the difference between Fast, Balance and Context?

Fast shows text as early as possible and translates each phrase on its own. Balance waits for a short phrase and uses the previous sentence. Context waits for complete sentences and looks further back, so subtitles arrive a little later and read more naturally. Balance is the default.

Is there a delay before subtitles appear?

When it has to hear a phrase before it can translate it, as in Web Mode, so subtitles follow the speech by a short moment. In Local Player the app reads ahead in the file, so subtitles can appear in time with the dialogue. The length of the delay depends on your hardware and the mode you choose.

Privacy

Is my audio sent to a server?

No. Speech recognition and translation run on your PC. Audio and subtitle text are not uploaded to be processed.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, after setup. The app needs the internet once to download its AI models. After that, Local Player works offline. Web Mode needs a connection to load websites. Pro also checks your activation about once a day while you are online, and keeps working offline for up to 30 days between checks.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free PlaySubtitle account. You create it on the Download page by confirming your e-mail address with a one-time code. There is no password. The app does not ask you to sign in to use Free. The same account unlocks Pro and Live Overlay later: you sign in to it in your browser with a one-time code sent by email.

Free and Pro

What does the Free edition include?

Local Player and Web Mode, all three translation modes, and the same translation quality as Pro. Free shows every translated line in the first fifth of a video and about 7 in 10 after that. The original-language text is always shown.

What does Pro add?

Every translated line for the whole video, AI subtitles for web videos that have no captions, saved web subtitles, karaoke-style word highlighting, manual content type and tone, and custom subtitle colours.

Is Live Overlay part of PlaySubtitle Video Player Pro?

No. Live Overlay is a separate product, bought and activated on its own. It is not included in PlaySubtitle Video Player Free or Pro.

What do the plans cost?

PlaySubtitle Video Player Pro is US$29.99 per year, Live Overlay is US$29.99 per year, and the Bundle (Pro and Live Overlay together) is US$49.99 per year. Prices are in US dollars for everyone, and Free costs nothing. Your payment provider may show a local equivalent, and taxes are shown at checkout.

Is it a subscription?

Yes. Paid plans are yearly subscriptions that renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time, and the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You can ask for a full refund within 7 days of any payment, including a renewal. The Refund Policy page has the details.

How many computers can I use?

Each licence is for one computer at a time. You can move it to another computer: deactivate the first one in your account, then activate the new one. The Bundle is one computer per product.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Paid features stop working when the period you paid for ends. PlaySubtitle Video Player Free keeps working, and your files and downloaded models stay on your computer.

How do I buy a plan?

Choose Buy Pro on the pricing page, or press Unlock PRO in the app. Payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells the plan to you as the seller of record. After you buy, open PlaySubtitle and press Unlock PRO, then Sign in to activate this computer, and sign in with the e-mail you bought with.

Your PC

Do I need a graphics card?

An NVIDIA GeForce graphics card with 6 GB of video memory is recommended. PlaySubtitle runs its AI models on NVIDIA graphics cards, so the GTX 10, RTX 20, 30 and 40 series give the best results. On AMD and Intel graphics, or without a supported NVIDIA card, PlaySubtitle runs on the processor instead. It works, but subtitles arrive noticeably later, and a processor that meets the recommended requirements matters more.

How much disk space does it need?

About 15 GB, most of which is the AI models that run on your PC.
