What is downloaded on first start
PlaySubtitle downloads the language models it runs, about 3.0 GB, during setup or on first start. You need an internet connection once, for this download. After that, Local Player works offline.
Installing the first versions
The first versions of PlaySubtitle are not code-signed yet, so Windows shows a warning the first time you run the installer. This is expected. Download the installer only from playsubtitle.com; its file name starts with PlaySubtitle-Setup.
- Download the installer from this page and open it.
- If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" (Microsoft Defender SmartScreen), click More info, then click Run anyway.
- If Windows asks whether you want to allow the app to make changes to your device and shows the publisher as Unknown, click Yes. Setup writes to Program Files, which needs this permission.
- Follow the setup pages. Tick Download the language models now to have everything ready in one go (recommended).
- Click Finish. PlaySubtitle opens, asks for your languages, then starts.
If the installer is blocked
- If your browser removed or blocked the file, choose Keep in the browser's download bar.
- If Windows says the file cannot be run, right-click it, choose Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom, press OK, then open it again.
- If Windows says "An Application Control policy has blocked this file", Smart App Control is turned on. It has no Run anyway button. To install, turn it off in Windows Security, App & browser control, Smart App Control settings, Off. On many Windows versions it cannot be turned back on afterwards, so do this only if you are comfortable with that. If that setting shows Evaluation or Off, it is not the cause.
- On a company or school computer, your administrator may block installers that are not code-signed. Ask them to allow it, or use a personal computer.
Uninstall
Open Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps, find PlaySubtitle and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller asks whether to keep your settings and the downloaded models.

- An NVIDIA GeForce graphics card (GTX 10, RTX 20, 30 or 40 series) is recommended. PlaySubtitle runs its AI models on NVIDIA graphics cards.
- On AMD and Intel graphics, or on a PC without a supported NVIDIA card, PlaySubtitle runs on the processor instead. It works, but subtitles arrive noticeably later.
- An internet connection is needed once, to download the AI models during setup.
