Subtitles for anything you play, in a floating bar
PlaySubtitle Live Overlay shows live subtitles for the sound your Windows PC is playing: videos, streams, games, music and anime. It writes down what is said, translates it into the language you choose and shows it in a small floating bar on top of your screen.
Speech recognition and translation run on your own computer, so your audio is not sent to a server to be processed.
Live Overlay is a separate paid product. It is not part of PlaySubtitle Video Player Free or Pro, and it has no free edition.
How it works
Start Live Overlay
Open it and a subtitle bar appears on your screen. In Settings you choose your sound source, the language being spoken and the language you want.
Play anything
Play a video, a stream, a game, music or anime. Live Overlay listens to the sound your PC is playing.
Read the subtitles
The translation appears in the floating bar, on top of your other apps.
What you can adjust
- The sound source, the spoken language and the subtitle language
- Fast, Balance or Context translation. Fast shows words as they are recognised and suits action games and live streaming. Context uses more of the dialogue before it and is slightly slower.
- Where the bar sits: docked at the bottom or top of the screen, or free to move, including onto a second monitor
- One line, or two lines that show the original and the translation together
- How it looks: colours, text size, outline and shadow
- A shortcut to show or hide the bar (Ctrl+Alt+S by default)
- Click-through mode, so the bar does not get in the way of games
Who it is for
- You watch videos or streams, or play games, in other apps and want subtitles on top of them.
- You listen to music or watch anime and want to read along in your own language.
- You want speech recognition and translation to stay on your own PC.
What it is not
- Not part of PlaySubtitle Video Player Free or Pro. It is a separate product with its own installer and its own licence.
- Not free. It needs an active paid licence, and there is no free edition.
- Not a media player or a browser. It does not include Local Player or Web Mode.
- Not a microphone tool. It captures the sound your PC plays, not your microphone.
- Not error-free. The subtitles are made by machine translation and can be wrong, so do not rely on them where accuracy matters.
Alongside PlaySubtitle Video Player
You can install Live Overlay and PlaySubtitle Video Player on the same PC. They share the downloaded language models, so these are not downloaded twice, and they keep separate settings and licences. The Bundle gives you both: you buy once and download both.
What your PC needs
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- An NVIDIA graphics card is recommended. Without one, it runs on the processor, which is not recommended for real-time subtitles.
- Any Windows audio device: speakers, headphones, Bluetooth or USB audio.
- An internet connection once, to download the language models. It also connects to activate and refresh your licence. Everything else works offline.

- An NVIDIA GeForce graphics card (GTX 10, RTX 20, 30 or 40 series) is recommended. PlaySubtitle runs its AI models on NVIDIA graphics cards.
- On AMD and Intel graphics, or on a PC without a supported NVIDIA card, PlaySubtitle runs on the processor instead. It works, but subtitles arrive noticeably later.
- An internet connection is needed once, to download the AI models during setup.

Billing, refunds and computers
- Paid plans are yearly subscriptions. They renew automatically until you cancel.
- Cancel any time. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Full refund within 7 days of any payment.
- Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells the plan to you as the seller of record. Taxes that apply where you live are shown at checkout.
- Prices are in US dollars for everyone. Your payment provider may show a local equivalent.
- Each licence is for one computer at a time. You can move it to another computer: deactivate the first one in your account, then activate the new one. The Bundle is one computer per product.
- When a subscription ends, paid features stop. Free keeps working, and your files and downloaded models stay on your computer.
